For each criminal case in Rhode Island, a judge will determine whether the accused may be released back into the community while awaiting trial or must await trial in the Adult Correctional Institute (ACI). Many times, in order to be released back into the community, the accused must “post” bond by depositing money with the state as security for them to attend trial and keep peace while in the community.
